In the words of our singers

Through iSing commissioned works, I’ve had the opportunity to explore socially relevant themes through music. The process of studying and performing these pieces has influenced the ways in which I view the world around me.

INSPIRE SELF DISCOVERY.

At iSing, girls learn and grow together, engaged “whole self in.” Through a wide variety of meaningful educational and musical opportunities for growth, they realize their individual strengths, embrace their unique voices and develop a deep respect for differing backgrounds and perspectives. They see first-hand that bringing a diversity of voices together can lead to rich and far-reaching results.

  •  REALIZE INDIVIDUAL STRENGTHS through rigorous and personalized vocal training in a curriculum and an environment that cultivates growth and that builds confidence through self-expression and risk-taking

  • EMBRACE THEIR UNIQUE VOICES through opportunities to meet personal and musical challenges and take on roles of leadership and mentorship that empower all, among them singing alone, peer-to-peer role modeling, and the iSing Mentoring initiative

  • DEVELOP RESPECT FOR OTHERS in a community that values empathy, collaboration, diversity, and welcoming of differences

In the words of our singers

iSing is a place for me to be inspired, and a place for me to inspire others. I feel that everyone here has someone they look up to, but at the same time, there is probably someone who looks up to each one of us.
— Torii
iSing has given me the space to take risks and enjoy the outcome.

TRANSFORM LIVES.

iSing creates meaning in moments of connection. iSing girls become friends for life, bonded by artistic experiences that challenge and shape their understanding of the world.  iSing singers enrich their lives and those of others through song. They learn to utilize the power and potential of their voices, and, through their shared vision for a bright future, will strengthen their community and change their world.

  • ENRICHES girls’ lives by fostering a lifelong personal, emotional, and meaningful connection to music. The young women of iSing embrace the potential of the arts to change lives.

  • EMPOWERS girls to become change-makers. iSing graduates are pursuing their dreams with determination and enthusiasm at colleges and universities from UC Berkeley and Stanford University to the University of Chicago, Northeastern, and Harvard University.  Wherever they go, we know they will uplift their communities, and dedicate themselves to create what should be

  • STRENGTHENS OUR COMMUNITY through our iSing alum mentoring initiative, bringing iSing graduates back to iSing to continue to mentor younger singers; and through iSing@RWC, our neighborhood chorus program bringing our teaching team, our iSing singer-mentors, and our innovative curriculum to girls from underserved schools in Silicon Valley and the Bay Area Peninsula who otherwise would have no access to choral music

In the words of our dear alumni

Being part of the iSing community as a student helped me grow in so many unexpected ways. Through studying music and collaborating with other young women in a welcoming community, I learned that my voice matters, that my voice holds power. I am so grateful for the opportunities I had during my time as a student, to work together with others, learn about the world and understand new perspectives, and raise my voice to stand for what I believe in — all of this through song. Today, as I continue to learn and grow as a young adult, I strive to carry on these lessons in my work, in my relationships, in my community, and as I continue to teach and make music.
— Ella
I found a home at iSing just when I needed it the most. The high expectations, incredible music, and supportive environment helped me grow from a shy ninth grader into an adult who believes in the power of her own voice. Years later, I continue to use my voice to fight for what I believe in — for racial justice, for immigration justice, and for educational justice. I plan to bring these values into the classroom as a high school teacher, where my dream is to someday create a home for my own students, just like the one I found at iSing.
